Tyra P. Sellers, PhD, JD, BCBA-D®

Chief Executive Officer

Tyra P. Sellers is the CEO of the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts. She earned a B.A. in Philosophy and M.A. in Special Education from San Francisco State University, a J.D. from the University of San Francisco, a Ph.D. from Utah State University, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst®. Her professional and research interests focus on professional ethics, training and supervision, assessment and treatment of severe problem behavior, and variability. Dr. Sellers has over 20 years of clinical experience working with individuals with disabilities in a wide variety of settings. She has held positions as an Assistant Professor at Utah State University and as the Director of Ethics at the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®. She is honored to have been the recipient of professional recognitions, such as OBM Network’s “Innovation Research Award” (2022); Utah Association for Behavior Analysis Student Committee “UtABA Mentor Award” (2019); Association for Behavior Analysis International Student Committee “Outstanding Mentor Award” (2019); Utah State University “Special Education 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year” by vote of undergraduate students. She has published several journal articles, co-authored four book chapters, co-authored the book titled Building and Sustaining Meaningful and Effective Relationships As A Supervisor and Mentor and the workbook titled pair titled The New Supervisor Workbook and The Consulting Supervisor’s Workbook. She currently serves on the editorial boards for several peer-reviewed journals.

Kiel Scates, M.Ed., BCBA®

Marketing & Member Experience Coordinator

Kiel ('Kyle') works for the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA) as the Marketing & Member Experience Coordinator. Kiel received her bachelor's (‘10) and master's (‘12) degrees in special education from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) Kiel began her career in the classroom as a special education teacher. After moving away from Athens and back to the Atlanta area, Kiel began pursuing her BCBA® credential while working as a behavior therapist. She earned her BACB® credential in July 2015. As an ABA practitioner, she has worked with a variety of clients ages 2 years to adulthood in homes, schools, clinics, residential, and community settings. Kiel has also served on the Georgia Association of Behavior Analysis (GABA) board for the past 5 years in a variety of roles, including the 2022 President. She was proud to be an active member of the licensure committee since 2018. The committee and GABA board saw the proposed state license of Behavior Analysts get signed into a bill in May 2022. She is enthusiastic about building connections within the community, being a support to professionals, and being a cheerleader for families and clients. Partnering with members, Affiliates, and practitioners and cheering them on is what Kiel is most passionate about!
