APBA Position Statement on Use of Contingent Shock
APBA would like to make practitioners and others aware that, on March 26th, 2024, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed, for a second time, a ban on devices that deliver electrical stimuli to individuals to reduce or eliminate targeted self-injurious behavior in vulnerable individuals. We urge individuals to read more about the proposed rule: Banned Devices; Proposal To Ban Electrical Stimulation Devices for Self-Injurious or Aggressive Behavior and to remain up to date on the progress of this important FDA proposed ban. APBA will remain active in monitoring the progress of the proposed FDA ban and will update the June 2022 Board of Directors Position Statement on the Use of Contingent Electric Skin Shock to Change Behavior document accordingly.

APBA Working Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

As we undertake this important work, we have removed the following position statements, which will remain part of APBA's historical archive:
These statements reflect moments in time when APBA responded to current events in our profession and society in support of and solidarity with impacted groups. APBA is further reflecting on our mission and values to enhance our organizational practice and create a comprehensive position statement outlining our current and future commitment to fostering an inclusive and socially just environment in our practice.
